Parentheticals for the 21st century



I spend more time than I probably need to disseminating technical information between sectors (between techies and environmentalists, say) and from technical people to nontechnical audiences, so I find myself linking to wikipedia entries and other resources a great deal in emails and other communications. I got tired of this, so I bastardized that handy old Latin abbreviation “q.v.”—which stands for quod vide, meaning “which see”—and created “q.g.” It means quod google, and makes use of the fact that the word “google” has acquired widespread acceptance as a verb. It’s useful because when somebody asks me to provide information about some term, the relevant information and explanations are often found at google.com/search?q=some+term, and there’s no reason I should have to link to that.
